School trip cancelled following mum's argument with teacher about buddy system

Most children see the annual school trip away as one of the highlights of the year, however, one child was left in tears over an upcoming visit to a waterpark.

The little girl had been looking forward to the trip away for the last few months, but unfortunately for her, she was left devastated after being forced to buddy up with another classmate that she is not friends with, The Mirror reports.

Bryn, the little girl in question, was partnered with Ben for the trip away, meaning the pair would have to ride together on the bus, eat lunch together and go on the waterpark rides - despite the fact that no other children were made partners with each other.

The mum has claimed that the teacher has made her daughter "believe she was a bad person for not wanting to" spend the day with the child. Despite this, the mum has claimed that it's the teacher who is to blame, as they have a history of using her "soft-spoken, intelligent older daughter as a behaviour buffer for the naughty boys".

In a post on Reddit, the unnamed mum said: "It's clear to me that Ms N is still too comfortable with enforcing archaic gender roles on her kids and forcing girls to do unpaid emotional labour for the sake of the boys."

The mum said she emailed the teacher to complain to little avail, as the teacher insisted that she must buddy up with Ben regardless if she wanted to go on the trip. However, she had a plan.

The mum said she pulled her child from the trip, and subsequently booked her VIP tickets for the park the same day as the school visit, but this was not the end of the story.

Upon learning of the situation, the mum said several other parents also pulled their children from the event and that the school is now unable to run their trip away at the same cost.

Now pushed for the trip to go ahead, the teacher "practically begged" the mum to allow Bryn to attend without a buddy, however, the mum refused - prompting the Reddit post from her explaining the ordeal.

The mum continued in her post: "I told her she should have thought about that before she tried to make my daughter do her job.

"My husband said I was being a bit petty and that Ms N clearly feels bad about what she did, and I should let Bryn go as I've already gotten my way. He asked me if I really wanted to deprive children of what they'd been waiting for all year.

"The thing is, if this wasn't Ms N’s first offence I probably would have agreed, but she has a pattern of this type of behaviour and hopefully this will put a stop to it."
