School summer holidays 2019: What are the UK term dates and when do the holidays start?

The summer holidays are nearly here (Picture: Unsplash)

Summer is well and truly underway now, which means the school holidays are just around the corner.

Yes, there isn't long until school children across the UK can look forward to weeks spent with family and friends, basking in those long summer days and nights.

So to make sure no-one gets caught out by the upcoming holidays, here's everything you need to know about when they start and whether you still have time to book that family trip abroad.

When do the official school summer holidays start?

Schools will typically break-up for the summer on Wednesday, July 24 although this will differ from school-to-school.

It means that most holidays will therefore begin on Thursday, July 25.

Some will break-up either a few days or weeks earlier, while others may break-up a few days later.

It's recommended that you check the dates online.

When do the school holidays end?

Typically, the kids start to go back to school around the beginning of September, with most Autumn term dates starting between Monday, September 2 and Wednesday September 4.

But again, the dates differ from school-to-school with some terms starting earlier and some the week after.

How do I check the term dates online?

You can visit the website for your child's school or local council to find out the term dates exactly.

Or you can visit this Government website and enter your postcode, which then takes you to the website of your local council.
