School staff in Leeds race out to help boy, 11 hit by car at pedestrian crossing

Staff from a Leeds school rushed out to help an 11-year-old boy this morning after he was hit by a car.

Residents report that the boy was hit this morning at a newly installed pelican crossing on York Road near South Parkway in the Seacroft area.

Staff from the nearby Leeds East Academy came out to help the boy before paramedics and police also attended the scene.

The boy was taken to hospital and his injuries are not life threatening, the emergency services have said.

West Yorkshire Police said that their log "suggests the boy is 11".

A spokesman for the force said: "At 8.08am today (Thursday) police received a report from the ambulance service about a collision involving a child and a car.

"Officers attended and the boy was taken to hospital for further treatment.

"His injuries are not life-threatening.

"Enquiries into the collision are continuing."
