School shooter who aged 11 killed five people with friend dies in car crash

A man who aged 11 teamed up with a friend to kill five people in a school shooting has died in a car crash.

Drew Grant - who changed his name from Andrew Golden - and Mitchell Johnson shot and killed four students and a teacher at Westside Middle School, Arkansas, in 1998.

On Saturday, Grant was driving a Honda CRV at around 9pm when the fatal head-on crash happened.

The now 33-year-old died at the scene near Cave City, Arkansas, according to reports.

The accident also killed the driver in the second car, 59-year-old Daniel Petty, from Essex in Missouri.

Three other people were injured in the incident and have been taken to hospital, Kait 8 reports.

Teacher Shannon Wright and students Natalie Brooks, Paige Ann Herring, Stephanie Dawn Johnson and Brittney Ryen Varner were killed in the 1998 school shooting.

Grant and Johnson got their teacher and fellow pupils out of a classroom by pulling a fire alarm, reports told.

Ten others were injured at the time.

Both shooters were held in custody until their 21st birthdays before being released.

It was reportedly one of the first school shootings in American history.

Reactions were mixed after news of Grant's death.

Relatives of Shannon Wright, Mitch and Zane Wright, said: "The news of Andrew Golden’s death today fills our family with mixed emotions as I’m sure it does with the other families and students of the Westside shooting. Mostly sadness.

"Sadness for his wife and son, sadness that that they too will feel the loss that we have felt. To his family, we are so sorry for your loss.

"We are praying that his wife and child will make a full recovery."
