School's warning after 'quite a lot' of children sent home with coughs

A school has issued a warning to parents after "quite a lot" of its pupils were sent home with coughs.

Church Vale Primary School in Mansfield told parents that pupils who have a cough should isolate for 10 days or get a test.

Executive Head Teacher Jo Yardley highlighted the issue in a post on social media just after 10.30pm on Wednesday, March 24.

She said in a statement: "There have been quite a lot of children sent home because they are coughing. This is our guidance and it must be followed for the sake of everyone. We are not out of the woods yet.

"If your child has a cough you must either self isolate them for 10 days and the members of the household must also do this, or they can return as soon as they have had a negative PCR test. A lateral flow test is not acceptable for a return to school. These are for identifying children with no symptoms.

"Please do not send if they have any of the main symptoms."

Head of the school Ben Trenowden added: "The school is doing everything it can to keep families safe.

"We are very mindful of the fact that just because we have opened the threat has not fully disappeared.

"We still need to be vigilant."

Government advice for schools on coronavirus states pupils with a cough "must immediately cease to attend and not attend for at least 10 days from the day after the start of their symptoms".

It adds: "Other members of their household (including any siblings and members of their support or childcare bubble if they have one) should self-isolate."
