School's tribute to 'loved and respected' pupil who died in Pollok Park tragedy

A school community has been left devastated at the death of a "much loved" pupil.

Saif Mohammed, 16, a pupil at Hillpark Secondary, lost his life after falling into the water at Pollok Park on Tuesday.

A Twitter post published last night said: "Our school community is devastated to hear of the tragic news. Our hearts go out to Saif's family and friends.

"Saif was a respected and much loved pupil and we know that everyone will be very shocked by his death. We will do all we can to offer support to our school community."

Saif's pupil's body was recovered from the White Cart Water in the south side of the city, shortly after the emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 5pm.

Paying tribute to respected Saif, one mum, asked for a memorial service to be held at the school.

She posted on the Hillpark tribute: "Terrible news - my son was devastated this morning when he realised it was one of his friends.

"Is there any chance that an outdoor memorial service could be set up for pupils to pay their respects to Saif and his family?"

The school responded: "It’s devastating news. The pupils and school community are working together to make this happen."

And schools across the city also posted messages of condolence.

Govan High said: "Thinking of you all and sending our thoughts to the whole school community."

And Linburn Academy added: "We are so sorry to hear this tragic news. Sending our love and condolences to Saif's family and to everyone in the wider Hillpark family."

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Saif's death.
