A woman battered a fellow mum after calling her a "fat mess" as they dropped their kids off at school.
Leanne Farrell repeatedly punched her victim, pulled her hair and forced her arm back before the fight was broken up by a passing motorist .
The 33-year-old launched the "unprovoked" assault while the woman was on the phone to a health visitor, according to Stoke-On-Trent Live .
A court heard Farrell had been in a relationship with the victim's former partner, with the pair having "ongoing difficulties".
Prosecutor Sue Hayers said: “The injured party knows the defendant. Miss Farrell had been in a relationship with the injured party’s former partner. There had been some ongoing difficulties between the two.
“On September 26, the injured party took her child to school. The defendant was there and made a remark to her.
"The injured party went to speak to school staff to make them aware of the issues with the defendant. She then started to go home.
“She was on the phone to a health visitor. On Beverley Drive she saw the defendant who crossed the road and caught up with her.
“The defendant said, ‘Why don’t you fight me, one-on-one?’ She replied, ‘I can’t be bothered with you’. The defendant called her a fat mess.”
North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard Farrell slapped the victim’s arm before a motorist intervened and the attack stopped. But Farrell then caught up with the victim again.
Miss Hayers added: “The defendant said, ‘You're going to have it’. She threw a punch to the back of the injured party’s head with a clenched fist. The defendant pulled her arm all the way back and punched her a few more times using her full force.
“The defendant had hold of the injured party’s hair and they both fell to the floor. An unknown man intervened and pulled the defendant off.”
The incident in Stoke-on-Trent was reported to police who arrested Farrell.
Farrell, from Berryhill in Stoke, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault by beating. She was found guilty following a trial.
Joanne Corbett, mitigating, said Farrell’s long-term partner died in 2017.
She added: "The family is still coming to terms with that.”
A six-month restraining order banning Farrell from contacting the victim was imposed. She must also pay £100 compensation to the victim, plus £650 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
Farrell was also given a 12-month community order with a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 150 hours unpaid work over the incident.
