School reopening in Kerala: Guidelines in 5 days, says general education minister V Sivankutty.

KOTTAYAM: A comprehensive guideline on school reopening will be issued within five days, said general education minister V Sivankutty.

Speaking to reporters in Alappuzha on Friday, Sivankutty has said that the government has got the draft guidelines. The final guidelines will be prepared after discussions with the health, LSGD and KSRTC departments. He said that parents, as well as the public, can also come up with suggestions. All this will be considered before finalising the guidelines.

Only two students will be allowed at one table. Classes will be held till noon. So noon meals will be avoided, and students will be given an allowance. Restrictions will be imposed on students going to eateries and bakeries on the premises of schools. Uniforms will not be made compulsory. Classrooms will be disinfected every day. Washrooms and school premises will be cleaned daily. All these activities will be done with the help of health committees. Soap and water for washing hands will be kept at the school’’s entrance as well as in each classroom. The body temperature of students will be checked before entering the classroom, Sivankutty siad.

Vaccination will be administered to those connected to the school, like school bus drivers and cooks. Students with Covid symptoms should not be sent to the school. Differently-abled students will be allowed to come to school only in the second phase. The government is also planning to provide KSRTC bus service for schools with higher student strength. Only two students will be allowed to travel in an autorickshaw. Online classes will continue even after schools reopen, Sivankutty said, adding that classes till noon and online classes in the afternoon will benefit students.
