LUCKNOW: In a special drive aimed at preparing kids who had no access to formal pre-primary education in the past two years owing to Covid-19, the basic education department launched a 12-week readiness programme on Monday.
Under this, children who have directly enrolled in class 1 this year, will be taught pre-literacy, pre-numeracy and social skills through a series of activities. The programme will help in filling gaps for pre-primary education. Children in schools will be encouraged to learn while playing.
According to unit in-charge, pre-primary, Pawan Sachan, the 12-week readiness programme is a compressed activity based course designed for children who have enrolled in class 1 without any access to pre-school, particularly in the past two years due to Covid1-19. "The course will help build essential skills in children and prepare them for primary schooling," Sachan said.
The readiness programme is in accordance with NE that stresses on pre-primary education. "Pre-schooling is a key strategy to equip young children with school readiness. We are thus putting special efforts in strengthening the early childhood education systems," Sachan said.
School readiness helps children to develop essential skills, knowledge and attitudes that are required to succeed in school and to continue learning later in life. Physical, cognitive, social and emotional development is an essential ingredient of school readiness.
To reach out to maximum kids, the department plans to extend the bal vatikas in each district in the current academic session.
