School pupils collect for West Lothian foodbank

Pupils from Whitburn Academy went the extra mile to help their community.

The school’s rights respecting schools (RRS) committee focused on the right to food and clothing.

Lauryn Dickson, who leads the committee, said: “To do this we organised a whole-school Christmas jumper/dress down day where each pupil and member of staff paid a food donation, rather than the usual £1 fee, that would be donated to the West Lothian Foodbank.

“The response was incredible and we had to organise for the foodbank to come to the school with their van to pick up the donations.

“We will be fundraising in the community in the future to raise money for fun activities for the pupils of the school.”
