School playleaders use donation to rejuvenate play areas at Lanarkshire primary

Primary six pupils from Chatelherault Primary School have been trained to become 'playleaders' enabling them to rejuvenate their very own playground.

The youngsters learned all about leadership, communication and organisational skills by Active Schools coordinator, Lucy Brown, in a bid to be named as 'playleaders' and take control of certain aspects of school playground life.

As part of the initiative the Parent Council were asked to support the pupils by donating money to allow them to buy new resources that they could use in the playground.

The primary six pupils were delighted with this and helped to sort out the new equipment bought from the generous donation.

Veronica McCreadie, the school's principal teacher, told Lanarkshire Live : "The pupils couldn't believe how much they were able to get for their playground, including a storage box, and the children felt very lucky to receive the £500 from the Parent Council.

"The Playleaders then worked hard and prepared all the new equipment to lead parachute games, football skills, basketball dribbles, swingball, nerf darts and much more with their fellow pupils.

"We would like to thank the Parent Council for all they have done to support them, their donation was put to good use and is enjoyed every day."
