School issues warning to children and parents after series of knifepoint robberies on pupils in Altrincham

Schools across Trafford have been warned over a series of shocking knifepoint robberies on pupils.

There have been no reported injuries, but students walking to and from school, and their parents, have been urged to remain vigilant.

Two incidents said to involve pupils at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys have been highlighted in Altrincham.

Trafford council has sent out e-mail alerts to parents as a result and the warnings are now being shared on social media by schools.

The boys involved are said to have been left distressed.

According to the alert seen by the M.E.N., two Year 10 students were mugged by a gang of up to five teenage yobs who threatened to stab them.

It happened near Tesco as they walked to Altrincham Interchange in the town centre on Wednesday evening.

Both boys are said to have been targeted for their wireless air pods and mobile phones.

Last week, a sixth form student from the school was mugged at knifepoint for his mobile phone and wallet.

In that incident, a knife was said to have been held to the boy's throat.

The alert, sent out on Thursday, read: "Unfortunately, there have been a couple of incidents with our students. Last night two of our Year 10 students were walking to the tram station at the Interchange, they took a shortcut down the side of Tesco and were then surrounded by a gang of five 16-year-old boys.

"They took their air pods and phones and made them change the settings so that they were able to use them, the youths threatened to stab them if they did not do as asked.

"We also had a similar incident last week, where a sixth form student was mugged for his phone and wallet.

"They held a knife to his throat and made him change the settings on his phone to allow them to use it, they later attempted to use his card in Timperley village but the card was declined because it had already been reported as stolen.

"The cashier rang the police and they managed to catch the boy.

"Luckily none of our students were harmed but are quite distressed by the ordeals.

"As always, please remind your son/daughter to be vigilant when travelling to and from school. Please report any matters of concern to the police.

"Thank you for your co-operation."
