School 'devastated' as sixth form pupil dies 'unexpectedly in her sleep'

A school has been left 'devastated' after a sixth form pupil died unexpectedly in her sleep.

The headteacher of King John School in Thundersley, Essex, announced the devastating news about one of their Year 12 pupils.

Mr Dan Steel said their school was "devastated by the news" and will be dedicated to providing additional support and counselling wherever possible.

At school on Monday, the headteacher confirmed that all pupils were informed of the death during assemblies and lessons before being offered support afterwards, reports Essex Live

In a letter sent to parents, the headteacher added: "Clearly, this is an incredibly difficult time, and this week we will have staff on hand to provide further support as required.

"Should you feel your child would benefit from any extra support, the Child Bereavement UK service can be accessed here and we would encourage you to make use of this if needed."

He added: "Over the coming weeks, my main priority will be offering support to the family in any way I can, and taking care of all our students and staff throughout this period.

"Thank you for your understanding and support. When the time is right I will write again about how we might come together as a community to remember and begin to heal."

You can find support from Child Bereavement UK here or you can call the Samaritans at any time on 116 123 or go here.
