School closes after being left without water until next week

A primary school has had to close its doors for the rest of the week after a burst water main left it without water.

Rice Lane Primary School in Walton sent out an urgent message on Twitter last night that said the school would close for the rest of the week due to the burst water main which runs underneath the school.

Parents of children who attend the school were also sent a message yesterday evening to confirm the school would remain shut.

The message said: “Dear Parents/Carers,

“Due to a burst water main underneath the school, we are having to close school for all children for the rest of the week.

“We are extremely sorry for this inconvenience but especially during the present climate, we are not able (or allowed to) function without water.

“We have workmen on the premises working on it now but we are unsure how long it will take to fix the issue.

“Thank you for your patience and co-operation.”

Although unrelated, the unfortunate closure of the school due to a burst water main comes after several schools on Merseyside have sent pupils home after outbreaks of coronavirus.

It’s thought that while pupils of Rice Lane Primary will be at home at least for the rest of this week, the school has been able to keep them busy via a school app.

The school’s reception tweeted this morning: “We are sorry we can’t see you in school today but please login to our seesaw app (passwords were sent home yesterday).

“Your teachers have put some fun activities for you to do [smiley face emoji]”
