The school stated on Facebook at 7.02pm yesterday that it had closed due to a power cut and children were required to leave the site at around 2pm.

The Facebook post said: “Thank you for your help earlier to get the children safely offsite around 2.00pm. As ever, your support was gratefully received and we appreciate your kind messages.

“With regret, because of problems caused by the power cut, school will be closed to all students tomorrow, Friday 11 February."

It continued: “We will give you a further update tomorrow.

“We sincerely hope that all stays well in your house if you are impacted by the power cut. As ever and undoubtedly, the Burscough community will support each other. Take care and stay safe.”

Electricity North West confirmed a power cut affected 1884 properties in Burscough yesterday.

A tweet read: "I'm sorry to report a power cut affecting 1884 properties in #Burscough #L40 nearby areas.

"Engineers are on site and working to restore supplies by 20:00. Call volumes are high at the moment, we'll post updates online as engineers make progress."

According to power cut trackers, it appears that power has now been restored to these properties.

Burscough Priory Academy and West Lancashire Borough Council have been contacted for comment.
