A school in Wigan was closed after a member of staff was taken ill and airlifted to hospital.

Paramedics rushed to The Deanery High School, on Frog Lane, just after 8.50am on Monday following reports of a man feeling unwell.

A number of ambulance vehicles attended and the staff member was taken to hospital in an air ambulance.

Students were kept in classrooms.

The school posted a message on Facebook to let parents the school would be shut for the rest of the day.

It read: "A member of staff has been taken very ill. So as not to cause distress to pupils they have been in their classrooms whilst the air ambulance and emergency services have been on site.
