School children send heartwarming thank you video to Marcus Rashford

Pupils from a primary school in Wythenshawe sent a touching thank you video to Marcus Rashford after his successful free school meal campaign.

The Manchester United star recently persuaded the government to U-turn over plans to end free meal vouchers during the summer break.

Children from Sandilands Primary School, where 50pc of the pupils are entitled to free school meals, will benefit from the free vouchers.

That's why they sent a thank you message to their 'local hero'.

The video montage shows children holding up homemade signs for the Reds star, thanking him for his campaign.

The footballer, from Wythenshawe, spotted the video on Twitter on Friday morning.

He retweeted the post, saying: "If you’re good, I’m good. Thank you Sandilands Primary, this was lovely and put a smile on my face this morning."

The children were 'over the moon' that the star saw the post.

Class teacher Luke Twist said: "At the school, 50pc of children are on free school meals.

"With him being local, we started thinking about how we could say thank you. For so many (of the children), he is a hero.

"We were over the moon when he retweeted it."

The England striker has received widespread praise for his campaign on free school meals.

He has since teamed up with food waste charity FareShare to raise £20m for struggling families.

Earlier this week, he became the youngest person to receive an honorary degree from The University of Manchester for his work to end child poverty.
