School bosses promise to ramp up safety measures following knife attack involving three pupils at academy

School bosses have promised to implement 'strong measures' to ensure safety after a knife attack at a north Manchester academy.

A schoolboy attacked two others with a penknife during the assault at Co-op Academy North Manchester on Monday (February 24).

The incident happened in the table tennis room at the school, in Blackley, in the afternoon after pupils returned from the half term break.

Two teenage schoolboys were taken to hospital and another arrested following the attack, which involved a penknife.

Their injuries are not thought to be serious.

Another boy, aged 15, was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

He has since been released under investigation.

School bosses say they will implement 'the strongest possible measures'to ensure the safety of pupils.

The Co-op Academies Trust, which runs the school, has now released a statement to offer reassurance to pupils and parents.

Principal Rebecca Smith has promised that staff are working to carefully review the isolated incident.

Ms Smith said: "The safety of all our students and staff is our number one priority.

“Therefore, I would like to reassure the whole school community that we will carefully review this isolated incident and implement the strongest possible measures we deem necessary to ensure our academy remains a safe learning environment for everyone.”
