Schitt’s Creek cleaned up during the 2020 Emmy Awards on Sunday evening. The cult-favorite won big in all seven comedy categories, making it the first show to do so in the history of the Emmys.
Show creators Dan and Eugene Levy were joined by co-stars Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy, Noah Reid, Karen Robinson and director Andrew Cividino for a virtual backstage post-show interview to discuss their historic winnings.
“I think my dad said it best tonight—it feels like a dream you don’t want to wake up from,” Dan Levy said when speaking with the press.
Schitt’s Creek is a show celebrated by many for its poignant portrayal of LGBTQ+ love and acceptance. For many fans, the show's ending was bittersweet and hopes of a feature-length movie are high.
Ending the show on their terms rather than letting the show get stale and potentially canceled was something that was very important to father/son duo Dan and Eugene.
During their post-Emmys cast interview, Dan explained, “Here’s the thing: This is the best way we could have ever ended the show.”
Dan shared that many people have asked if there is a movie in the works, with Annie Murphy quipping that she's the “many people” asking him incessantly to bring the team back together one more time.
Dan said, “If there ever is an idea that ever popped into my head [for a movie] worthy of these wonderful people, it has to be really freakin’ good at this point — because this is a really nice way of saying goodbye. So fingers crossed that we really get a good idea.”
