Micromobilty operator Bird and charity Hire a Hero have teamed up to help get ex-servicemen and women back into full-time employment.
Hire a Hero is a charity that supports servicemembers through the transition into civilian life. Partnering with public, private and third sector organisations to provide a network of support and to signpost service leavers to the most appropriate resources as required.
Bird helps cities reduce car trips and improve air quality by deploying fleets of electric scooters for short trips in cities. Bird currently operates in 160 cities around the world including Redditch and Canterbury in the UK. Bird is looking to fill a number of operational fulltime roles in the UK to help maintain, rebalance and charge its fleet of electric scooters.
Charlotte Bailey, General Manager of Bird UK, said: “It’s unsettling to hear that around 50% of service leavers are unemployed six months after leaving the services. At Bird we want to help people who have given so much find secure full time employment. Bird is in a fortunate position to have continued growth, so by teaming up with Hire a Hero we hope we can find some excellent candidates and help them get back into work.”
Jinty Morgan from Hire a Hero said: "It can be very daunting for many ex servicemen and women to settle back into civilian life. Unfortunately finding employment can be hard with 91% of the public believing those who have served have been mentally, emotionally or physically damaged. This is simply not the case. We’re thrilled Bird is helping to tackle this stigma and we’re looking forward to working with them to get as many people into jobs as we can.”
