Scenes of destruction after Super Typhoon Fung-wong hits the Philippines

Super Typhoon Fung-wong, the Category 5 storm made landfall in Aurora province on Sunday night, bringing winds of up to 185 kph and heavy rain that flooded villages, toppled power lines and triggered landslides.

Entire towns lost power and hundreds of flights were cancelled as the country braced for more damage after last week’s deadly Typhoon Kalmaegi.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of emergency amid widespread destruction, with roads washed out and homes swept away. By Monday, the storm had weakened over the South China Sea, but forecasters warned that storm surges and strong winds could still threaten coastal areas.

Rescue efforts continue as authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
