Scary vaccination drop in MP: 1.7 crore in September to 72 lakh in October

BHOPAL: Day after chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that between 5 and 6 lakh Covid vaccine doses should be administered everyday, only 66,000 people could get their jab in the state on Sunday.

In October, only 72.3 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the state. This averages to around only 2.33 lakh doses daily. This is only a little better than one third of the average number of vaccine doses administered daily in the state in the month of September. As per daily average around 5.71 lakh vaccine doses were administered every day in the month of September as total of 1.7 crore vaccine doses were administered in the month.

As on Sunday, 4.99 crore people have been administered with the first dose of the vaccine of which, 2.08 crore have also received the second dose of the vaccine. Among the districts where maximum doses were administered on Sunday include Jabalpur district where 17,173 doses were administered, Shivpuri district where 14,310 doses were administered, followed by Datia district where 10,061 doses were administered, and Khargone where 5,204 doses were administered.

Thus, even if it is considered that only these 4.99 crore who have received the first dose of vaccine so far, are to be vaccinated with the second dose of vaccine, then also 2.9 crore people have to be vaccinated in the two months of November and December to ensure full vaccination. This averages to around 4.76 lakh vaccines per day as cumulatively in the month of November and December there are 61 days.

Thus, if the target as set by the chief minister of vaccinating more than 5 lakh people everyday is achieved, then it is likely that full vaccination will be done in the state by year-end. However, given the vaccination numbers in the month of October, this seems to be a tough task, said sources.

The state government has announced a special vaccination drive from November15. However, the past drives of the government has helped in increasing vaccination figures in the state and the state is among one of the best states in the country in terms of first dose vaccination coverage. As such, it is not impossible to attain full vaccination by year end, added sources. But it will only be possible, if the close to 5 lakh vaccine doses are administered everyday in the state, failing which, with every passing day when less number of vaccine doses are administered, the target will become more difficult in the days to come, said sources.
