There have been a lot of great scary movies in the last nearly 20 years since Anna Faris and Regina Hall were making their beloved parody film franchise. Now, fans are being gifted with a sixth film in the Scary Movie universe!
The 2000 film Scary Movie took horror films like Scream and The Ring and turned it into a bit of parody fun. With four films in the franchise starring Hall and Faris, a 5th film was released in 2013, seven years after the fourth installment, and didn’t star the usual crew. Since, we haven’t had another Scary Movie. Until now.
With the Paramount and Skydance merger bringing a lot of our favorite franchise to the forefront of the conversation, there is a lot of news of what movies are “priorities” for the studio. One now being Scary Movie 6 and it was announced that Hall and Faris would be back as our beloved Cindy (Faris) and Brenda (Hall).
Hall and Faris made a statement about returning for Scary Movie 6, saying “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
Marlon Wayans, who played Shorty in the films and is writing the script for the sixth film with his brothers, posted the news on Instagram with a poster of Hall and Faris as Brenda and Cindy.
This is exciting for the millennials because we had our own weird and fun parody franchise to enjoy. Movies like The Naked Gun were Gen X’s way of experiencing parodies but ours were the Scary Movie films. If you ask a millennial about their experience with horror films, 9 times out of 10, they’ll probably bring up this franchise.
So it is exciting to have the crew back together after 20 years. Can’t wait for Brenda to meet the May Queen or Count Orlok.
