'Scary' Mohamed Salah change after star left ex Liverpool player 'frustrated'

Former Liverpool player David James has revealed that Mohamed Salah left him frustrated last season but reckons the Egyptian now looks “scary.”

Salah has scored nine times in nine games so far this term to take his Liverpool goal tally to 134 in 212 matches (101 of which have been in the Premier League) and with his current contract expiring at the end of next season, trying to agree a new deal for him at Anfield remains a priority for the club.

The player appeared to cast doubts over his future last term as his now infamous interview with AS back in December first sowed the seeds of doubt when he refused to rule out future moves to either Real Madrid or Barcelona and he followed that up with a piece in Marca just a week before Jurgen Klopp’s side faced Real in the Champions League in which he was quoted as saying he would like to play in La Liga “one day.”

However, with Salah, 29, now appearing to be back to his best, ex-goalkeeper James likes what he’s seeing.

He told the Mirror : “This season he has got back to the level he was at the season before last.

“He scored a load of goals last year and I am a fan of Salah and at the same time slightly frustrated sometimes.

“I think in particular last season where Liverpool’s game was directed mainly through him, hence the reason he scored so many goals.

“Whereas this season, he is part of a Liverpool side that are playing back at the level that won them the Premier League a couple of years ago.

“That’s the Salah I like, where they are not completely dependent on him and he doesn’t look like he has to do more.

“I think this season, he looks scary doesn’t he? Wow.

“I think the goal itself was top-drawer but his performance in that game against a City side who made Chelsea look very normal and arguably should have had more out of the PSG game, for Salah to be a notable performer in that game emphasises the fact that he is back to the top of his game.”
