Scary films and TV shows new to Netflix in time for Halloween this year

What is better than a cosy night in watching a film or binging the latest popular series?

And even better for fans of horror as spooky season is upon us.

Netflix has some excellent options for Halloween lovers this year - from the much talked about, intensely dark series Squid Game to new scary movies.

Whether you're looking to sink your teeth (fangs) into a nail biting drama or a thrilling horror film, here are the must sees on Netflix this year, according to Wales Online.

Be warned, these shows and films are certainly not for the faint hearted. Read on, if you dare...

1. Squid Game
Would 'chappy' appear in the Scottish version of the hit Korean show? (Netflix)

This sinister Korean-language series has proved hugely popular since its release last month and is already on course to become one of Netflix's most successful originals.

Set around a dystopian game show, Squid Game sees 456 participants from all walks of life compete to win 45.6 billion won (£28m). Every challenge seems simple, but the consequence of losing is death.

2. There's Someone Inside Your House

Based on Stephanie Perkins' novel of the same name, There's Someone Inside Your House sees a group of school students stalked by a killer intent on exposing their darkest secrets.

This teen slasher is made eerier still as the murderer hides their identity by wearing a 3D-printed copy of their latest victim’s face.

4. The Chestnut Man
The Chestnut Man is the latest psychological triller on Netflix. (Netflix)

If you're looking for a Scandinavian noir along the lines of The Killing, this Danish-language psychological thriller could be for you.

The Chestnut Man begins with the discovery of a woman who has been brutally murdered in a Copenhagen playground. The only clue: a small man made of chestnuts on the ground beside her.

No One Gets Out Alive sees the gripping action of Adam Nevill's novel of the same name transported from Perry Barr in Birmingham to Cleveland in Ohio.

When Ambar, an immigrant in search of the American dream, is forced to take a room in a crumbling boarding house, she soon finds herself in a nightmare she can't escape.

This Norwegian-language film blends horror and comedy as a dysfunctional couple head to a remote cabin to reconnect.
