Scary CCTV footage shows man threatening shop assistants in Swords with knife before leaving with almost €2,000

A Dublin shop owner has described the horrific moment that his establishment was held up at knifepoint.

The incident took place on Thursday May 9 and shows a man wearing a balaclava entering the shop in Swords and threatening the two staff members behind the counter.

The thief entered the door of Netto Shop in Applewood Village just shortly after 3pm.

The man points to the till with the knife and begins to bang the end of the weapon off the counter.

One of the shop assistants, who is seen trying to calm down the robber, opens up the till and hands over the cash.

Shop owner Piotr told Dublin Live that the man left the shop with almost €2,000.

He said: "The man took €1,800 in €50 and €20 notes. I am almost 99% sure that he was a local too because he knew where the till was straight away."

It was Piotr's fiancé, Celina who can be seen dealing with the attack but thankfully her and the second shop assistant are "100% okay".

Piotr continued: "He just kept telling Celina, 'give me the money and I won't hurt you'".

In a statement to Dublin Live, a garda spokesman said they "are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a retail premises in the Applewood Court area of Swords on 9 May at approximately 3:10pm".

"A lone male entered the premises armed with a knife and demanded money from staff.

"The man left scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were sustained and investigations are ongoing."
