Scary CCTV footage shows man apparently 'trying to break into house in the early hours of Sunday morning in Tallaght'

This is the moment that eerie footage of a man apparently trying to break into a house in South Dublin was caught on CCTV.

The man tries the handle of the door to see if it's opened before making a swift exit.

One of the many doors that he is alleged to have tried in the area belonged to resident Ross Dunne.

Nurse hospitalised after being 'viciously assaulted by inmates' in Dublin prison

Ross told Dublin Live: "He tried our door at 3.30am on Sunday the 28th of April.

"We live in an estate in Tallaght. My wife was feeding our 4 week old baby at the time and we knew nothing about it until a neighbour messaged me at 8:30 the next morning to say his cameras caught someone trying his door at 4 am.

"When I checked mine I realised the same guy was at my house 30 minutes earlier and was clearly just checking for unlocked doors, complete opportunist.

Northside locals warned following reports of suspicious man claiming to be from ESB trying to gain entry to a house in Donabate

"We had issues in the estate with things being stolen from cars but again they always only get into the unlocked cars. (Obviously an easy fix here is to ensure you lock your doors)"

"We were lucky that we remembered to lock our door though. We could have easily forgotten as we are a little sleep deprived at the minute with the baby.

Ross contacted gardai and passed the videos onto them.

Gardai respond to 'serious and scary issue of strange men' in North Dublin area by increasing patrols

He added: "Gardai came up to the house and we emailed on the footage but they didn't recognise him.

In a statement to Dublin Live, a spokeswoman for the Gardaí said "they attended an incident of public order at a premises in Tallaght".

"A male had been seen by the occupant of the house, trespassing on the grounds of this property, on the 28 April at approximately 3.30am."
