An Arkansas woman says she discovered multiple Walmart Great Value water bottles with small holes in the cap, showing others how to check the seal.
In a video with over 498,000 views, TikToker Chatty Chewy (@chatty.chewy) holds up a bottle of Great Value purified drinking water outside.
“This is the second bottle out of this pack that I have refused to drink because there’s a teeny tiny hole,” she says.
How did she find the hole in the Walmart Great Value bottled water?
She zooms in on the cap, revealing a small, off-center hole. She tips the bottle over to perform the “squeeze test,” checking to see if water can flow in or out through the hole.
As the TikToker squeezes the bottle, a small stream of water exits through the puncture.
“I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t trust most big corporations or people that work in them,” she says. “Please check your water. If it has a hole like that, please don’t drink it. It’s better to be safe than be sorry.”
Bottled water should remain completely sealed to avoid contaminants, such as bacteria, from entering the product. An intact seal ensures that the product is safe to drink and hasn’t been tampered with, either.
In the caption, the TikTok writes, “Idk what is going on here…Now I do the ol’ squeeze test on EVERY bottle before opening. It could be random, but with everything going on in the world today, you really can’t be too safe.”
She clarifies that the bottled water was purchased at a Walmart in Berryville, Arkansas.
Are shoppers concerned about holes in their bottled water?
In the comments, other shoppers say they plan to use the squeeze test on future bottled water purchases.
“Thanks for the warning! It’s something people might not notice,” one says.
“I NEVER would have thought to even check this. As many bottles of water I have drank from. This is truly unsettling,” another writes.
“Now ima be checking all my water bottles bc of this TikTok,” a third adds.
Others say they’ve noticed similar issues with Great Value bottled water.
“I buy great value water and there was a pack I got recently where 3 of the bottles were already open. Like the caps had already been unscrewed and I smelled one of them and it smelled like bleach or something. I tossed em,” a commenter writes.
Another said, “I drink that exact bottled water. I found one bottle where the sealed ring was already broken on. The bottle was full and it was in one of the sealed plastic-wrapped 24-count packs. I didn’t think twice and dumped it down the drain.”
