Scarred thief who stole £25k BMW is on the run from prison

A scarred thief who 'fished' car keys from family homes is wanted by police after going on the run.

Nathan Stewart stole vehicles - including a £25,000 BMW - during a burglary spree in Cumbria.

The cars were then transported to Merseyside to be sold.

Stewart was jailed in March 2018 for his offences, at least one of which saw him 'fish' a set of keys from inside a home so he could steal them without breaking in.

The 22-year-old was sentenced to three years and nine months for theft, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.

He had been serving the remainder of his term at the open jail HMP Kirkham, in Lancashire, but absconded from the site on August 16.

Lancashire Police has now issued an appeal for details of his location.

The force described Stewart, formerly of Albert Street in Penrith, as being 5ft 10in tall and of slight build, with blue eyes and blonde hair.

The appeal also stated that he has a scar to the right side of his neck, a scar to his right wrist, scar on his stomach and tattoo on his right wrist and is said to have links to Cumbria and Merseyside.

Anyone with information about where he may be is asked to call Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number 1426 of August 16.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
