Scarlett Moffatt screamed at herself in the mirror as a child to try to stop facial tics

Scarlett Moffatt has recalled screaming at herself in the mirror in order to stop her facial tics during her childhood.

The former Gogglebox star, 31, was first diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy at the age of 12 after suffering with the condition for two years.

According to the NHS, Bell’s Palsy is a temporary weakness or lack of movement affecting one side of the face which usually gets better within nine months.

Before her diagnosis, Scarlett suffered from involuntary movements from the age of 11.

Sadly, the condition led the TV star - who has since fronted her own Channel 4 documentary on Tourette's - to be bullied by her classmates in school.

Speaking on the Stompcast podcast, Scarlett explained: "I was a target for bullies. So when the tics started I'd suppress them during school time.

"As soon as I got home they'd all come out at once.

"I used to stand in front of the mirror and scream at my own face to try and make myself not tic."

Scarlett has always been always been open about her battle with the condition.

Earlier this year, the I'm A Celebrity winner fronted her own documentary, Britain’s Tourette’s Mystery: Scarlett Moffatt Investigates, on Channel 4.

Describing it as the "hardest thing I’ve ever filmed", the 31-year-old shared her personal experience of living with the condition and said it is "totally unpredictable".

She also said she went to the doctor’s, but the treatment "wasn’t that simple".

The star explained: "You expect them to say, 'Right, here’s a course of steroids and you can have speech therapy and it should get better', but it wasn’t as easy as that."

Meanwhile, it comes after Scarlett recently returned from a holiday to Marbella with her younger sister Ava.

Taking to Instagram, the presenter shared a series of snaps as she made the most of the break in Puerto Banus.

The first snap showed Scarlett beaming at the camera as she dined in a restaurant with fruity drinks in front of her, the TV presenter reached out towards the camera as thought to grab it.

The following picture showed a collage of selfies Scarlett had taken of herself and Ava in a pool, followed by a range of selfies with straight faces, smiles and peace signs.

The TV pesenter caption the cluster of pictures: "Lots of carbs in Marbs, with my absolute fave my little sister Ava [white heart emoji] [sun emoji] #marbs #love."
