Scarlett Moffatt reveals cancer scare amid abnormal smear test result

Scarlett Moffatt has said she is awaiting test results after doctors "detected something" during a routine cervical screening.

The Gogglebox star is facing a cancer scare after receiving abnormal results from a routine smear test.

The 29-year-old star took to Instagram in a series of moving video clips in which she urged women to get their smear tests.

She began: “This is quite a personal Instagram story. This is for the ladies out there.

“Last month I posted about my letter for my smear and how important it is to go for smears. I urge anyone who’d had their letter and ignored it, to please go.”

She shared her story online (PA)

She went on to reveal that she suffered from anxiety, and understood why some women might be nervous to get smear tests, as they could be invasive and uncomfortable, but said it was a simple, “life-saving” test.

She continued: "They detected something. Lots of people have to go for biopsies and again I worked myself up about it, but I still went.

"It was four minutes of discomfort for something that as a little bit uncomfortable, but I went because could save my life."

The TV presenter added: "The sooner they pick it up, it's easier to manage, I get my results back in a couple of days.

"And hopefully it comes back to say that in a year's time I'll have to go for a smear test or even fingers crossed it'll say in three years time you'll have to go for a smear test.

"But it is so important. Imagine if I kept leaving it and leaving it.

"Things can be done if it's detected really early on... please, please, please go for your smear."

Moffatt later returned to social media to thank fans for their messages of support.

Emphasising the importance of smear tests, the reality TV star said: “My point is it’s so important. I cannot stress this enough.

“I know that people think it’s a little bit embarrassing but honestly, these nurses and doctors are trained. They see lots of vaginas on a daily basis.

“It’s just a vagina. All of us ladies have one. Please go have your smear!”

She also praised the NHS, as well as the doctors and nurses who looked after her during the screening process
