Scarlett Moffatt joins 'sex-swapping' tribe as part of shock new experiment

Scarlett Moffatt has swapped the Gogglebox sofa that made her famous for something a lot more risque.

The 29-year-old and her family are moving to a sex-swapping African tribe as part of a new TV experiment.

After becoming famous on the Channel 4 show, the Moffats and an exact replica of their County Durham home have travelled to stay with the Himba Tribe in The British Tribe Next Door.

The Himba people have a custom called Okujepisa Omukazendu, which sees tribesmen offering up their wives as sex partners to welcome guests.

A source told the Daily Star: "The Himba are a polygamous community."

The show will be a huge cultural shock for the family, who will be immersed in tribal life.

But they will also be able to take their home comforts like hair straighteners and iPhones.

The Moffatts spent four weeks living in their house alongside the Himba, star Scarlett’s dad, Mark, learned to be a cattle herder and granny Christine bonded with the tribal elders by introducing them to knitting.

Channel execs say the tribe "welcomed the opportunity to assess and judge at first hand the sedentary, high tech and consumerist Western lifestyles they have heard about but never seen close-up."

Alf Lawrie, Head of Factual Entertainment at Channel 4 said: “For the first time in human history, British suburbia and Himba tribal life will co-exist side-by-side.

"This series contrasts two worlds on a spectacular scale – but at its heart, is about the extraordinary relationships it creates."

Scarlett has left her role on I'm A Celebrity... Extra Camp (ITV)

The British Tribe Next Door is the latest TV project for Scarlett, who recently quit her role hosting I'm A Celebrity spin-off Extra Camp .

Scarlett, who started hosting in 2017 after being crowned Queen of the Jungle, revealed she was also leaving to focus on a new project.

She said: "For 3 years I have enjoyed a jungle life, being crowned queen of the jungle and having the greatest time presenting extra camp with Swashy and Joel who I now class as best friends.

"The jungle absolutely changed my life and I am massively grateful to everybody who voted for me whilst in the jungle and for your constant support to date and everybody who tuned in to extra camp."
