Scarlett Moffatt gives up on Willy Wonka wedding plans to elope to Las Vegas

I’m A Celeb winner Scarlett Moffatt has given up on her dream for a Willy Wonka wedding - and plans to elope to Las Vegas instead.

Though first, she will need to get engaged to boyfriend Scott Dobinson before convincing him to wed abroad.

The Gogglebox star has dreamed of a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed wedding since an early age, but as she prepares to move into a new home with her policeman boyfriend of two years, the 30-year-old says she has had a change of heart.

“I’m not actually engaged yet, but I assume he’s going to do it at some point,” says Scarlett.

“I’ve always, always wanted a massive wedding, now I keep saying: ‘Let’s go the Vegas.’”

Scarlett got the idea of eloping after chatting to vlogger and Christmas No. 1 singer Ladbaby, who eloped to Vegas for his wedding.

Scarlett’s boyfriend Scott says: “She’s full of hints. It went from: ‘I’ve found this stately home, let’s have this massive ceremony, get all this catering in, this is how I want my tables.’ To: ‘We’re going to Vegas, it’s what I really want to do because it will be fun.’”

She previously said she wanted to base her nuptials on Katie Price ’s 2005 wedding to Peter Andre, saying in 2016: “I want a glass carriage. I’d also like a Willy Wonka theme with centrepieces as sweets and munchkins as waiters.”

Now, the couple spoke about their less extravagant plans as they interviewed the Ladbaby couple on their Radio 1 podcast, Scarlett Moffatt Wants to Believe, available now on BBC Sounds.

The pair, who met when Scott responded to an emergency call from Scarlett, have just bought a new house, and are finding their move stressful, after Scott mistakenly purchased expensive shoe boxes rather than furniture packing equipment.

Scarlett says: “Apparently it comes top of the list of the most stressful things you can go through - even more than a divorce. I would agree with that.

“I gave Scott one job to do - I’ve organised everything. They were shoeboxes. We can’t fit nowt in them. It would have taken a week to move.”

However, she added to her boyfriend: “I’m excited to move into the house with you.”

They have fitted a new kitchen and installed a “Covid-friendly” touch free toilet with sensors so family can visit when restrictions allow.

Their new home is 10 miles away from her previous home in County Durham.
