Scarlett Johansson will direct Ellie Goulding in what purports to be a live multimedia extravaganza in New York next month. The Unstaged concert will take place on 11 November, after Goulding’s third album Delirium is released.
Johansson has previously directed a 2009 short film called These Vagabond Shoes, which stars Kevin Bacon as a man on a quest to get a hotdog New York. In 2013, she revealed plans to direct the film version of Truman Capote’s novel Summer Crossing, though filming has not commenced.
Johansson is in good company as one of the directors behind the credit card company American Express’s Unstaged concert series, which brings together musicians and directors for a multimedia performance streamed online. Past pairings have included Werner Herzog with the Killers, Terry Gilliam with Arcade Fire, and Spike Lee with Pharrell Williams.
The livestream of Goulding’s concert begins at 8pm ET, followed by a 24-hour rebroadcast here.
Johansson has also been engaged in other extracurricular activities. She was recently enlisted by former Saturday Night Live writer Mike O’Brien to read verses from the Bible in a suggestive manner for his comedy album Tasty Radio.
