Scarlett Johansson’s husband Colin Jost has confirmed reports the pair are expecting a baby.

“We’re having a baby, it’s exciting,” comedian Jost, 39, said during a performance at Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut, PageSix reports.

The baby will be Ms Johansson’s second child - but her first with husband Mr Jost, who she married last year.

The 36-year-old Black Widow star is already mother to six-year-old daughter Rose Dorothy, who she shares with her French journalist ex-husband Romain Dauriac. The pair were married for three years until 2017.

Rumours began to circulate that Ms Johansson was pregnant after she missed several events for Black Widow, which was released earlier this summer.

Since then, the star has launched a lawsuit against Disney - who distributed the movie - alleging she lost out over $50million for her role in the blockbuster film.

Ms Johansson said her contract guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release and the film’s arrival on Disney+ at the same time as it was shown in cinemas deprived her of potential earnings.

Earlier this month, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek defended the release strategy.

Disney issued a strongly worded response, accusing the star of showing a “callous disregard” to the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chapek addressed the strategy in the company’s latest earnings call with investors and said the “unpredictable” nature of the health crisis called for flexibility regarding film releases.

He said Black Widow was “the top performing film at the domestic box office since the start of the pandemic” and he and Disney chairman Bob Iger agreed over the release strategy.
