At San Diego Comic-Con, Scarlett Johansson revealed the cast of a long-anticipated Black Widow standalone film. But the newest addition to the Marvel universe wasn’t the only exciting news for the star.
Johansson, who is currently engaged to Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost, also gave fans a closer look at her engagement ring... which could probably be seen from space.
A publicist for Johansson confirmed that the Avengers star and Jost got engaged in May, though this is the first time she has worn the ring to a major event. The design features a huge pear-shaped light brown diamond, set on an unusual black band. The designer of the ring has yet to be revealed.
British Vogue believe the ring looks similar to one posted to New York-based brand Taffin Jewellery’s Instagram. The brand shared a close up image of a ring last month, which they described as having a super high quality 11 carat light brown diamond.
Evening Standard Insider has reached out to Taffin Jewellery for comment.
Shane Co’s VP of Merchandise Alicia Davis told Page Six, “Scarlett’s 11-carat, light brown diamond looks to be a spin on two stone shapes, mixing an oval and pear to create an elegant egg shape. We can estimate a ring like this to be priced at over $400,000.”
Johansson’s ring follows a couple of recent trends in engagement ring styles, as coloured stones including Princess Eugenie and Lady Gaga’s as well as pear-shaped diamonds such as Cardi B’s have made a resurgence.
Jost and Johansson were first seen publicly together in May 2017, following a guest appearance on Jost’s programme Saturday Night Live. Prior to Jost, Johansson has been married twice - first to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds between 2008-2010 and later to French journalist Romain Dauriac between 2014-2017.
Johansson has a five year old daughter named Rose, who she had with Dauriac.
This is Jost's first engagement, though he has previously dated actress Rashida Jones. When first asked about Johansson in 2017, a shy Jost called her “wonderful” and said that she was “pretty awesome”.
He also revealed that they first met in 2006 when he was a writer on SNL, when Johansson did her first hosting stint on the show, but he has since become an onscreen presence as a Weekend Update anchor and head writer alongside Michael Che.
“The first time she hosted the first year I was a writer on the show,” Jost told Entertainment Tonight, “so we've kind of known each other since then. She's the best.”
