Scarlett Johansson praises ex-husband Ryan Reynolds: ‘He’s a good guy’

Scarlett Johansson has praised her “good guy” ex-husband Ryan Reynolds.

The Black Widow actress appeared on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast this week and spoke about what she’s learned from being married three times.

“You’ve been married two times?” asked Paltrow, 50. Johansson replied: "Three times."

Paltrow said: “Oh that’s right, because I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!”

“Yes,” laughed Johansson. “We weren’t married very long, but we were when I first met you, for Iron Man [2] or whatever.

“We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our house,” continued Paltrow, to which Johansson responded: “He’s a good guy.”

Johansson, 38, whose marriage to the 46-year-old Deadpool star lasted from 2008 to 2011, previously admitted that she had romanticised marriage during their relationship.

She told Vanity Fair in 2019: “The first time I got married I was 23 years old.

"I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage. Maybe I kind of romanticised it, I think, in a way.

“It’s a different part of my life now. I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices.

“I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”

Reynolds married Blake Lively, 35, in 2012 and the couple share four children.

Johannsson went on to marry 41-year-old French journalist Romain Dauriac in 2014, whom she split from in 2017 and shares daughter Rose, eight, with.

The actress is now married to Saturday Night Live writer and star Colin Jost, 40. The pair wed in October 2020 and welcomed son Cosmo in August 2021.

“It’s funny,” Johansson told Paltrow. “I knew Colin for a long time, but only kind of through work.

“And when we first started seeing each other, I would never have probably been ready for a relationship like the one that I have with Colin at different times in my life because I wasn’t comfortable with setting my own boundaries.

“I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from somebody else.”
