Scarlets' World Cup man handed ban after red card tackle in PRO14 encounter

Scarlets lock Sam Lousi has been suspended for four weeks after his red card in the Guinness PRO14 clash with Glasgow Warriors.

The Tonga international was dismissed for an illegal tackle on Ratu Tagive in Glasgow’s 20-7 win at Scotstoun last weekend.

Lousi is ruled out until November 9 — meaning he’ll miss three Scarlets games, against Benetton, Edinburgh and Zebre.

The 29-year-old had received his marching orders from referee Frank Murphy after a tackle on Tagive caught the winger high.

A disciplinary panel headed by Scotland’s Roddy Dunlop accepted the player’s actions warranted a red card for foul play, with the incident deemed a mid-range offence, carrying a six-week suspension.

Due to Lousi’s less-than-spotless disciplinary record — he picked up a red card for punching against Munster earlier this year — the judicial officer could not offer full mitigation.

A four-week ban was thus handed to the World Cup player.

Lousi has the right to appeal.
