Scarlets v Edinburgh team news as Wales star returns after seven months and trio to bid emotional farewells

Wales prop Samson Lee is set to put seven months of injury misery behind him by appearing for the Scarlets against Edinburgh in the west Walians' final match of the season on Sunday (1pm).

The 45-cap tighthead has been sidelined after picking up a concussion in the Heineken Champions Cup clash with Bath at The Recreation Ground last December.

He is named on the bench for the Rainbow Cup date in Llanelli.

It’s a welcome return to the fray for the popular 28-year-old, who played four times for Wales during the autumn, with his standout performance coming against Georgia when he caused the highly rated Mikheil Nariashvili all kinds of problems.

The Scarlets make 10 changes all told from the side that lost to Cardiff Blues last time out.

A reduced capacity crowd will be allowed in to Parc y Scarlets as supporters watch for the first time in 2020-21.

It could get emotional, too, with Jac Morgan, Pieter Scholtz and fans’ favourite Uzair Cassiem making their final appearances for the west Wales region before heading off to pastures new.

Morgan may not have been at the Scarlets as long as many supporters would have wished, but he has been outstanding for them this season, giving his all in every game, while South African back rower Cassiem has embraced the region and their fans fully.

Interim head coach Dai Flanagan gives a run-out to new Wales squad member Tom Rogers at full-back rather than wing, with some close to the youngster feeling that No. 15 could eventually prove his best position.

And Ryan Elias captains the side after previously impressing with his up-and-at-’em brand of leadership, while Kieran Hardy and Dan Jones feature at half-back with Sam Costelow on the bench.

Flanagan said: “It is massive to have supporters back. Everyone is looking forward to it and we have seen a real spike in training this week because everyone has wanted to play.

“We want to leave a mark with people, people have missed coming to games especially at Parc y Scarlets where a lot of lives revolve around the games.

“We want to give them that feeling again, that buzz of what it means to come back so they can really start to look forward to next season.”
