Scarlets v Dragons called off as yet another Welsh derby falls

This weekend’s Welsh derby clash between the Scarlets and the Dragons has been postponed due to Covid cases at the Gwent region.

The United Rugby Championship fixture was due to kick off at 7.35pm on Saturday (January 8) behind closed doors at Parc y Scarlets.

However, a number of positive Covid-19 cases within the Dragons playing squad have been reported by the region.

The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with them and having considered all the facts have deemed that the fixture cannot go ahead as planned.

The URC will now consider available dates to reschedule the game.

It’s the latest in a succession of matches to be called off due to Covid cases.

A number of European fixtures fell by the wayside, while both Boxing Day Welsh derbies had to be postponed, along with the New Year’s Day meeting between the Dragons and Cardiff at Rodney Parade.

It’s yet another fixture that will have to be rescheduled in an already congested calendar.

Once more, it sees a Scarlets game biting the dust. They have played just one match since October 22, their New Year's Day victory over the Ospreys.
