Scarlets and Dragons huge European quarter-final matches postponed due to coronavirus

The Scarlets and Dragons have had their European Challenge Cup quarter-finals postponed.

Both fixtures were due to take place on the weekend commencing April 3, with Brad Mooar's side heading to Toulon and Dean Ryan's men to Bristol.

However, both fixtures have now been postponed amid growing public health concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

With restrictions on public gatherings and unnecessary travel being enforced across Europe, all eight European quarter-finals have been put on ice.

Tournament organisers do, however, remain committed to finish the tournament at a later date as rugby attempts to solve the fixture chaos that mass postponements has created.

A statement from EPCR read: "While respecting all further directives by governments and local authorities, EPCR, in conjunction with the relevant leagues and unions, remains committed to trying to find a solution which will enable it to complete the 2019/20 Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup tournaments at such a time as that aligns with preventative measures undertaken by an overwhelming majority of sport’s governing bodies and tournament organisers in Europe.

"EPCR’s priority is the health and welfare of players and club staff, and an update regarding the knockout stages of the tournaments will be communicated to all stakeholders as soon as practicable."

There is currently no indication when the games will be replayed, however ticket holders were urged to retain their tickets, which will be valid for any rescheduled match.

The remaining Guinness PRO14 fixtures been postponed indefinitely until the picture surrounding coronavirus becomes clearer.

This evening, the Gallagher Premiership followed suit, postponing all fixtures for the next five weeks.
