Scared parents warning after 'Spiderman' spotted giving sweets to children in Rathmines

Concerned parents in Rathmines are warning others to be cautious after a man dressed as Spiderman approached children and started giving out sweets yesterday.

The strange incident happened on Monday afternoon at the park on Belgrave Square, between 3pm and 4pm.

The local square contains a popular playground where kids often flock to after school.

But a number of worried mother's urged each other to stay vigilant after spotting the not-so-friendly neighbourhood Spiderman trying to tempt kids away.

One said: "A guy dressed as Spiderman approached a number of kids on at least two occasions, handing them sweets.

"He took off when adults noticed him. Many of the kids were far away from their parents or minders at the time.

"I reported it to Rathmines Garda Station. This time of year especially there’s probably more opportunists around than normal."

Dublin Live have contacted An Garda Siochana for comment.
