Scapegoating immigrant workers is lowest point in dismal Brexit campaign

The scapegoating of immigrant workers was one of the lowest points in the dismal campaign to leave the EU .

The message was pushed despite loud warnings that cutting the number of people coming to Britain will have a major impact on vital public services such as the NHS.

Theresa May’s Tories seem to think the answer to our new self-inflicted problem is to stop anyone who won’t earn £30,000.

That’s a wage 1.5million people in Scotland do not earn.

The limit is too high for much of the retail, hospital, health and social care sector, where Scotland – like the UK as a whole – relies on people from other countries.

May clearly still doesn’t have a clue what she wants as she travels Europe desperately trying to make two plus two equal five.

As far as jobs and real lives are concerned, the Brexit sums don’t add up.

The drunken Hibs fan who jumped from the stands to confront Rangers captain James Tavernier has been jailed for 100 days and banned from football stadiums for 10 years.

The sentencing and the ban send exactly the right message about the kind of abusive behaviour that has gripped Scottish football.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam was correct when he said this was part of a widening disorder in Scottish football.

But identifying the perpetrators – not too hard in this case – and coming down on them with hefty sentences and country-wide bans is the way to start sorting this out.

There have been too many incidents of late so we won’t hold our breath for one sentence to change the attitude of thugs.

Loutish behaviour is in danger of becoming an established part of the Scottish game. That can't be allowed to happen.

Catching the people responsible – and subjecting them to the full power of the law – is a message that must
get through.

Scots Avengers star Karen Gillan gives away movie plot in awkward interview

Spoiler sports

Oops, Karen Gillan appears to have given away part of the plot line to the much-anticipated movie Avengers: Endgame.

Films are subject to so much pirating these days that even the actors only get the parts of the script that are relevant to their part, so giving the game away is a no-no.

Ex-Doctor Who assistant Karen probably wishes she could get into a Tardis and go back in time to put things right.
