Scam warning as con artists dress as delivery drivers to steal from South Dublin apartments

Cunning thieves are dressing up as delivery drivers to trick their way into plush Dublin homes.

The scammers gain access into apartment complexes so they can steal parcels from the foyer.

A property management agent in south Dublin warned residents of the ruse this week, adding that gardai are investigating the gang.

Residents at the Alliance Management Suite on Barrow Street, Dublin 4 have been recent victims of this crime.

On Wednesday evening there was an incident where parcels were stolen from the entrance of these apartments and the matter is now being investigated by the Gardai.

With most retail out of action due to lockdown, there has been a big increase in packages being delivered during the pandemic.

And opportunistic criminals have used the rise in online shopping to target parcels which are often left in apartment block foyers.

The property manager of the south Dublin apartments warned residents that the person who gained access to the building posed as a delivery man.

And the manager has urged them to ensure they do not give access to anyone they don’t know into the building complex.

In a letter sent to residents, she said: “When entering your block should someone try to follow you in please ask them to use their own key.

“If a delivery person buzzes your apartment to notify you that they have your parcel please meet them at the lobby door.

“Going forward please ensure to collect your parcels daily and on notification of the delivery.

“If you cannot do this please consider using Parcel Motel, An Post or another service to ensure parcels are not being left unattended.

“Unfortunately, we are not in a position to accept parcels on your behalf due to COVID-19; this is unlikely to change any time soon.”
