Scalise to release memoir in November

"Back in the Game" will be released Nov. 13 through Center Street publishing.

Scalise was shot last year while practicing with fellow Republicans for the Congressional Baseball Game, and the 300-page book is billed as a "tight, inspirational narrative," according to its listing on Amazon.

"Representative Scalise believes that his faith, the grace of God and the power of prayer had a great deal to do with his recovery, and he will share stories and experiences that illustrate the many miracles that occurred to keep him alive," the Center Street listing reads.

Scalise continues to recover from his wounds and recently visited Democrats at their practice for the Congressional Baseball Game. He has practiced with fellow Republicans at their practice.

The memoir is set to be released the week after the 2018 election, after which Republicans are set to make a choice to lead their party since House Speaker Paul D. Ryan is retiring at the end of this year.

Scalise is often mentioned as a Ryan successor, but as recently as Tuesday morning at a Politico Playbook event he said he will support House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy as Ryan's successor.

"He's got a very good relationship with President (Donald) Trump," Scalise said when asked why McCarthy would make a good speaker. He also cited McCarthy's work as majority leader scheduling the floor with the House moving a lot of bills following through on the Republican agenda.
