Scaled-down cinema gets a second chance in Cannes

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

Cinema has returned to the French Riviera, in the form of a three-day event following the cancellation of Cannes' annual film festival in May. Our reporters in the south of France bring us an update on the reduced selection of films showing on the Croisette, the socially-distanced red carpet and the symbolic importance of screening movies amid a pandemic.

Plus, film critic Lisa Nesselson joins us to talk about the week's new releases, including a family drama from French director and actress Maïwenn.

We also discuss the extreme lockdown scenario in Spanish historical drama "The Endless Trench" and Calamity Jane strikes again in a French animated version of the young heroine's adventures.
