Scaffolding has been put up around Newark Castle after a 'minor' crack was found.
It was found in the middle tower of Newark Castle's curtain wall facing the riverside.
Scaffolding has been erected to protect that section of the wall and a part of the footpath has been cordoned off.
Carys Coulton-Jones, Newark and Sherwood Council Business Manager for Heritage, Culture and Visitors, said: “A minor crack in the stonework has appeared in the middle tower of Newark Castle's curtain wall facing the riverside.
"We believe it to be a 'localised problem', confined to a small section of the wall and are awaiting further expert opinion before carrying out remedial works.
“Scaffolding has been erected to protect that section of wall and a part of the footpath has been cordoned off as a precaution to ensure public safety.
“The castle, which is a Grade I listed building and a scheduled ancient monument and one of the most significant archaeological assets in the district, is subject to regular, routine maintenance checks.”
