Scaffolding on iconic Clerys finally comes down

The scaffolding which has been covering Clerys on O'Connell Street for over five years has begun to be removed.

In a tweet posted by Dublin Town, pictures showed scaffolding on the upper level finally coming down after a multi-million euro restoration of the stonework.

The building, which has stood on O'Connell Street for 102 years was completely destroyed during the Easter Rising and was rebuilt in its current form in 1922.

A five-year restoration program was carried out in 2004 at a cost of €24 million.

The latest redevelopment is called Clerys Quarter and includes a refurbishment and extension of the main building on O'Connell Street as well as new retail, office and leisure facilities including a rooftop bar.

A new boutique hotel is also included in the redevelopment, called The Clery.
