Scaffolder who broke man's nose told to save for compensation or go to jail

A scaffolder from Keynsham has been told to raise £750 or go to jail.

Phillip Bailey visited the home of Alexander Robson in Paulton and smashed him in the face, Bristol Crown Court heard.

The single blow, which followed alleged threats to Mr Bailey's dad, resulted in Mr Robson sustaining a broken nose.

Bailey, 38, of Arcadius Way in Keynsham, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on April 4.

Judge William Hart told him: "This sort of violence is something you simply can't do.

"You've got to learn to control your temper.

"I can guarantee compensation by deferring sentence.

"If you have saved £750 and comply with your existing community order I will suspend the prison sentence."

The judge deferred sentence until February 24, next year.

Robert Yates, prosecuting, said after an alleged incident involving threats to Bailey's dad, Bailey called on Mr Robson around 8.30pm.

After knocking at the front door, Bailey punched Mr Robson once to the face before Mr Robson managed to slam his door shut.

Mr Yates told the court that as Bailey left the scene he said: "I'm Phil Bailey, make sure you remember that."

Mr Robson suffered a broken nose and had to have it re-set in a painful procedure at Royal United Hospital, Bath.

Chloe Griggs, defending, said no weapon was used, it was not a group attack and the incident was short-lived.

She said: "One punch was thrown and that was the end of it.

"He was advised very serious threats had been made by the complainant.

"In anger he drove to the property and wanted to have it out with whoever made these threats.

"He accepts he let his emotions get the better of him."

Bailey has a job and the support of a long-term partner, Miss Griggs added.
