The Supreme Court issued a press release today refuting media reports which said that action would be taken by the Chief Justice of India regarding allegations against a senior Supreme Court judge, Bar and Bench reported.
The statement said: "Media has recently been reporting about complaints making insinuations against members of the higher judiciary, and the action likely to be taken by the Chief Justice of India. Supreme Court is being quoted as the source of the information. It is clarified once and for all that inquiries under the 'In-house Procedure' being totally and wholly confidential in nature, Supreme Court never releases information in matters incidental thereto."
The press release was related to media reports that CJI Bobde was seeking a response from Justice NV Ramana on a complaint filed by Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Reddy had written a letter to Bobde in October, alleging that Ramana had, among other things, influenced appointments of judges and that Ramana's family members were involved in questionable land deals. Last week, Reddy reiterated these allegations in an affidavit filed before the Chief Justice.
